Elevators in Georgia: types, standards and installation

An elevator is part of almost every modern building, from residential complexes to hospitals, business centres and industrial sites. A well-chosen, properly installed lift runs safely, economically and quietly for years. A poor choice leads to frequent stoppages, higher energy bills and lost comfort.

WestLift (ვესტლიფტი) installs, modernizes and maintains elevators and escalators across Georgia. Passenger systems come from our partner factory AKRA in Turkey and construction lifts from EMKO, while drives, control panels and door mechanisms are sourced from certified German, Italian and Japanese manufacturers. Every lift we install meets the European safety standards EN 81-20/50. In more than 7 years we have completed 117+ installations, from Batumi and the Adjara coast to Tbilisi, Gori and Gudauri.

How to choose the right elevator: 6 steps

Choosing a lift starts with the building, not the brand. This is the six-step method WestLift uses on every new project.

  1. 01

    Building type and purpose

Residential, commercial, hospital or industrial. Each type of lift differs in cabin size, door width and finishes.

  2. 02

    Traffic analysis

The number of floors, the number of residents or staff and the expected peak-hour trips determine the lift’s speed and cabin capacity.

  3. 03

    Capacity and speed

We supply passenger lifts from 450 to 1600 kg, at speeds from 1.0 m/s. The most common choice for apartment buildings is a 630 kg, 8-person lift. Hospital lifts carry 1600 kg with wide doors; freight lifts carry 1000–5000 kg.

  4. 04

    Shaft size

A 630 kg passenger lift typically needs a shaft of about 1600 × 1700 mm. WestLift works with existing shafts and also offers machine-room-less (MRL) solutions that need no separate machine room.

  5. 05

    Energy efficiency

VVVF drives, LED lighting and a standby mode reduce energy use compared with older lifts, which matters for a lift that runs all day in a busy building.

  6. 06

    Installation timeline

A standard installation takes 4–8 weeks per shaft; multi-shaft complexes with parallel work take about 8–12 weeks. You get an exact schedule after the site survey, which is free.

EN 81-20/50 standard

Our lifts meet the European safety standards EN 81-20 and EN 81-50, which are recognised across the European Union and in most countries worldwide. Accessible lifts additionally meet EN 81-70.

ISO 9001 quality system

Our installation work follows ISO 9001 quality management. Every completed lift goes through mandatory testing: load tests, emergency simulation and door sensor calibration.

Frequently asked questions about elevators

How long does elevator installation take?+

A standard installation takes 4–8 weeks per shaft, depending on the building and the lift model. In high-rise complexes several shafts are installed in parallel, so a 12-shaft installation takes about 8–12 weeks. The stages are shaft preparation, rail installation, cabin and counterweight assembly, electrical work, calibration and testing.

Which brands do you work with?+

Passenger systems come from our partner factory AKRA in Turkey and construction lifts from EMKO. Drives, control panels and door mechanisms are sourced from certified German, Italian and Japanese manufacturers. We also service and modernize elevators of any manufacturer, so an older lift can often be upgraded without a full replacement.

Do your elevators meet EN 81?+

Yes. Every lift we install meets the European safety standards EN 81-20 and EN 81-50, and accessible lifts also meet EN 81-70. Components are CE-marked, and every lift is tested and inspected before commissioning.

What happens after the warranty?+

WestLift-supplied components carry a 12-month warranty. After that we offer three maintenance packages: Base Care (a preventive visit every month, fault resolution within 24 hours), Business Support (two visits a month, on site within 1–3 hours) and Industrial Premium (a weekly technical audit, on site within 1 hour).

Do you work across Georgia?+

Yes. Our head office is in Batumi (Meskheti Street N25) and we cover the whole Adjara region directly. We also work in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Rustavi, Gori, Gudauri, Bakuriani and Zugdidi.
